A lonely hitman living with his domineering mother is hired by a gangster to kill an art thief, but cannot go through with it. Posing as a private detective, he offers to protect her from his furious client, while also acquiring an apprentice in the shape of a young man who witnessed him killing the mobster's henchmen.
