Haven (2001)

First instalment of a two-part drama chronicling the true story of Ruth Gruber, a Brooklyn Jew who escorted a group of Jewish refugees back to the US in 1944. Gruber travelled to Italy to rescue 1,000 Jews who had been invited to America by President Roosevelt. Once on US soil, however, the Jews were detained in a camp on the orders of the government. Gruber dedicated herself to winning citizenship for those she had rescued.
